The History of Fleming's Christmas Tree Farms

It all began as a way to supplement an income. In 1945, Roy Fleming planted his first seedling. He and his wife, Mary Jane, owned a service station. During the day, Mary Jane would run the station while Roy would work on the trees. Then he would take over the duties of the station in the evenings. This agricultural adventure became Roy's passion and soon turned into a full-time job known as Fleming's Christmas Tree Farms.

His son, JD, became his partner in 1980. They hired another son, Randy, as the foreman of the labor crew. Together they continued to build the business adding B&B trees to the operation.

When Roy began the business, trees were baled by hand or pulled through a tapered cone and hand-tied. Sometimes trees were sent to market unbaled. In the 1950s, motorized tree balers were introduced. About the same time, tractor-driven tree planters were introduced to the industry speeding up planting time.

In 2001, after many years of hard work, Roy decided it was time to slow down a bit and enjoy more time with Mary Jane. He sold his share of the partnership to his son, Randy.

JD and Randy have continued the business that their father built. Their new partnership, Fleming's Christmas Tree Farms, L.L.C., operates from the same home base established many years ago by a true pioneer of today's Christmas tree industry, Mr. Roy Fleming.
